Peter Joachim Katzenstein is the Walter S. Carpenter, Jr. Professor of International Studies at Cornell University. His scholarship examines political economy, security, culture, identity, and the ways regional and civilizational contexts shape world politics.

He has written, co-written, edited, or co-edited nearly forty books and has published more than one hundred articles and book chapters. His recent work focuses on uncertainty, power, regions, civilizations, German politics, and America’s role in the international order.

His academic career includes leadership in the American Political Science Association, fellowships at major research institutes, honorary degrees, and recognition for research and teaching.
